Valentine's Day for One

When I was single, Valentine's Day was just another day. I was not a Valentine's Day hater. I just didn't mind it much. Maybe I went out with my friends to celebrate singleness. Other than that, I didn't roll my eyes at the roses and chocolates being delivered to others.

This year, as someone who is in a relationship, I became adverse to the day. For some reason, everything, everywhere reminded me of it - and how I would be spending the day by myself. I do like a little romance, but I am not a sap for it. It wasn't so much that I wanted to be taken out for a fancy night. In fact, last year I think we actually stayed in to cook dinner. More than anything, it was just that it was yet another holiday that I did not get to share with my boy.

The boy did send me beautiful tulips and a gift certificate for a massage. The bouquet actually had more red tulips, but I like how in this photo the single red flower stands it.

I also made myself breakfast -- cream-cheese stuffed french toast with strawberries. Next year, thankfully, I'll be able to make it for two.

Winter Wonderland

I woke up to a ground blanketed in snow on Thursday morning. In the early morning hours, the soft white portions, untouched yet by footprints or tire tracks, were beautiful.

However, it was not quite so beautiful as I heaved over three inches off my windshield or trekked through the mucky brown slush on my way into the library.

The snow continued to fall throughout most of the day and into the night. In all over a foot of snow. It was a record snow fall for the Dallas/Fort Worth area. By noon, as the snow mounted, work and school were closed, so I spent the afternoon snapping pictures of the white wonderland and then, when my fingers were so cold that they were actually numb, curled up under a throw on my couch watching movies.
